“There he is!” “Do you see him coming!” “Is that him… the one on the donkey?” “Who is he?” “I think he is a prophet or something.” “People up the road are yelling Hosanna, Blessed is the King of Israel.” “Look, they are making a carpet for him to pass over out of their cloaks.” “What is going on here?”
I have always wondered, how many of the folks who were part of Jesus’ triumphal entry to Jerusalem that first Palm Sunday were actually aware of who he really was? Certainly his followers understood… perhaps those who witnessed Lazarus’ recent resurrection had an inkling… but how many of those cheering folks just celebrated because… well… something exciting seemed to be happening?
I wonder what Jesus was thinking? Did the cheering crowd cause him to long for his people to truly accept him as Messiah? Did he imagine the welcome he would receive from the hosts of Heaven after his earthy mission was accomplished? Perhaps he sadly envisioned the taunting crowds that would soon cry for his crucifixion?
But one thing is certain, regardless of who cheered and why… the King of Kings truly was riding that donkey into Jerusalem that morning. When the religious leaders told Jesus to rebuke his followers for celebrating, Jesus replied the very stones would cry out in praise if they stopped. Creation was determined to worship The King on that morning and nothing would prevent that from happening.
The Apostle John must truly have been in awe upon his revelation vision of the risen and glorified Christ seated on the throne of Heaven. He writes, Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. Revelation 19:6-8 NLT
Friends what a day that will be! It is coming you know. Don’t let the Enemy try to seed any doubt in your heart. The king that was celebrated on Palm Sunday is the KING OF KINGS who will be worshipped for all of Eternity in Heaven! He will preside over the wedding feast of the lamb! He will reign over his people and Heaven forever! Yes, come quickly, King Jesus!
