The Bible has been under assault lately. According to Gallup, 22% of Americans believe the Bible is the inspired word of God with 28% maintaining that the Bible is just fables and stories. But here is where the story gets alarming, 39% of EVANGELICALS do not believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. Four out of ten.

In the past decade, many people have made claims that the Bible is actually so full of errors that it couldn’t possibly come from Divine Origin, but is that true? Kurt Eichenwald wrote an article for Newsweek called, The Bible: So Misunderstood It’s a Sin, he writes, “No television preacher has ever read the Bible. Neither has any evangelical politician. Neither has the pope. Neither have I. And neither have you. At best, we’ve all read a bad translation—a translation of translations of translations of hand-copied copies of copies of copies of copies, and on and on, hundreds of times.”

His statement is either a blatant attempt to distort the truth, or quite simply a completely uneducated formation. The Bible wasn’t translated from Greek or Hebrew to French, then to Chinese and then to German and finally into English. It wasn’t a “translation of translations of translations…”. Our Bible was translated directly from the original Greek or Hebrew text. Actually, there is very little variation in Hebrew manuscripts from copies written 700 years ago and copies written 2000 years ago, a tribute to the meticulous work of ancient scribes.

So why offer such a misleading statement (and this is just one of hundreds)? Quite simply, because to discredit the Bible is to discredit God. Did you know that the Bible has never been wrong when it comes to historical documentation. When it talks about kings and kingdoms, wars and lands… it has never been proven wrong… not once.

Today we begin a new series called, Can I Trust The Bible? I truly believe this is such an essential teaching to every follower of Jesus, because if we are going to believe in Jesus and how God the father has provided for our forgiveness and redemption through Him, then we had better believe what the Bible teaches about Him to be true!
