PASTOR STEVE'S PONDERINGS - April 22, 2018

What was it like to have your dirty feet washed by Jesus? Humiliating, astonishing, humbling… only Jesus’ disciples would know for sure, but one thing has to be absolutely certain… they never forgot his demonstration and the meaning behind it. “The Son of Man came to serve — now you go and do likewise.” The true power behind serving is in the demonstration that we are placing someone else’s needs before our own, and when we do that, we communicate that they matter.

To SERVE YOUR WORLD is one of the core values we have at Christian Alliance Church… and next month we are going to live it out! Instead of our normal church services that day, we will head out into the community to SERVE. SERVE YOUR WORLD DAY will be May 20, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM. And yes… it is a bit of a radical thought, I know. No regular church services? No preaching? No singing? No offering? No… you know… normal church?

I would submit to you though, that it is not nearly as radical as the King of Kings washing dirty feet, and that SERVING others can be just as worshipful as singing How Great Thou Art. After all, Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love the Lord your God with all of your heart, mind and soul, and the second is like it — Love your neighbor as yourself.

I hope you will plan on being part of our SERVE YOUR WORLD DAY on May 20. In the coming weeks you will be able to sign up for various ways to SERVE in our community and church. If you have ideas on ways that we can SERVE, please let us know! From 9:30-12 we will SERVE others, and then from 12-1:30 we will have lunch together and celebrate. Put it on the calendar now. It is time for the Church to move beyond it’s walls and into the Community. Let’s do this!
